Lunch Lap III

Lunch Lap III
The monthly Lunch Lap starting at Sambuco's.

Its that time again where we get together at Sambuco's Barber (Facebook) at 11am (ksu @ 11:45am) and ride the backroads to another destination with about 80 of our closest friends! This Sunday, the destination was the Waters Edge Dock and Grill at High Rock Lake.

We arrived about 10:50am and there were a few bikes there. Quite surprising since the last two outings, there were at least 20+ before 11am. After about 10 minutes, many more bikes began to arrive. We opted for a quick beverage (it was a bit warm) before the ride. Around noon, the ring leader had someone say a prayer, gave the usual how to ride in a group talk, and kick stands were up.

These rides to have blockers at any intersection with lights, stop signs, etc. This allows the entire group to stay together. Today there were 57 total bikes and I think 18 were two up for a total of about 75 people. Another fantastic turn out.

We got everyone lined up and then began the ride. High Rock lake is an area where I do a lot of riding so the roads we took were very familiar to me. I love the route they used. Lots of winding back roads through farm lands and woods. We really did not encounter many traffic lights (except at the beginning of the ride). The blockers did their usual GREAT job. Cannot say enough about what they do and keep the group together and safe.

We arrived at the Waters Edge about 1:15pm. They have a a huge flat parking lot which we took over. We all dismounted and headed inside. They had a large dining room waiting for us as well. We all settled in, ordered lunch and drinks, and had a great time talking about the ride, etc.

After eating, we headed out to the deck for a group photo and more socializing. After about 15-30 minutes, it started to sprinkle. We noticed quite a number of people leaving once that started happening. Looking at the radar, it still looked clear so we stayed a bit longer.

I had plans for dinner so a group headed over to the Thirsty Beaver. I headed home. About 10 minutes in, the skies turned and the rain just came down all at once. I was in my summer gear and got soaked. I found a business with a drive through and parked my bike waiting out the rain. The temperature also dropped about 12-15 degrees so now it was a bit chilly. Once the rain stopped, I hopped back on the bike and proceeded home. I did get rained on a bit but nothing like before.

I got home, parked the bike, and took off all the wet gear so it could dry. What a great ride and day (even with the rain). Cannot wait until next month!
