Merritt's Grill

I heard that this place had the best BLT sandwiches in the state so I had to go find out for myself just how good they are. I had Friday off and decided to ride up to Chapel Hill and get a sandwich for lunch. The ride is about 110+ miles one way. The day was not perfect but given that we have been having 100 degree days, the high of 86 and possible rain sounded down right relaxing.
I wanted to get up there before the lunch rush. I left around 9:30am which would put me there about 11:30ish. I put on my gear, got gas, and headed on my way. The cloud cover was a welcomed sight. I did not really want the sun beating on me the whole way (never did see the sun). The only issue was the threat of rain. It did sprinkle on me a few times and one time it got a little heavier but not enough for me to stop and put on rain gear.
Find the place was very easy. It is a small restaurant with quite a number of tables out front (and also HUGE canopies to protect you from the sun). They also have quite a number of fans to help chase away flies and try to keep you cool. There is parking all around the building but when I got there, it was quite full. I did find a nook to put my bike. There is also a HUGE parking lot across the street so parking should never be an issue. I also noticed behind the building (and the parking), there is clearing that housed at least another 15 tables. I would think with the tables in front and the ones in back, getting seat should not be an issue.
When I arrived, there was a line to place an order. You did not have to wait long to place your order. Once that is completed, you just wait for your name to be called. Again, that did not take long. My food was ready in about 4-5 minutes.
There have 4 kinds of BLTs. They are all the same except for their size. They have a Baby, Single, Double, and Triple. As you jump up, so the does the amount of bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes on your sandwich. The triple has a pound of bacon on it!
Got my sandwich and beer and went outside to eat it. I will say, the sandwich is quite delicious.

The Single BLT with 7 slices of bacon, 4 tomato slices, and 4 pieces of lettuce (and my beer).
When I completed that sandwich, I was quite full. I can see where they say this is really one of the best sandwiches around. I will definitely come back when I am in the area.
