New Mirrors for the Himalayan 450

I had not planned on getting new mirrors until something happened to the old ones. Well, something happened and I had to order them. I needed to adjust the stock mirror as they were too far forward. I loosened the nut on one mirror, pushed it back, tightened, and adjusted the mirror. Looked good. Then the left mirror, I tried to loosen the nut. It was stuck...really stuck. I removed the entire mirror and put it in a vise. Sadly, it took a wrench AND a pipe to finally get it loosen up. The problem was that it snapped a piece and made it impossible to tighten. Time for a new mirror.
I am sure I may have been able to go back to the dealer and get it replaced but the field of vision on the mirrors is really not that good. I knew at some point I would replace them and just pulled the trigger and ordered new ones.
I was looking for a direct replacement. There are a ton of mirrors out there but only a few are a direct replacement (ie: not modifications are needed). I chose to purchase the DoubleTake Mirror Adventure. There are three different sized arms. I opted for the 6.0 (the longest) since the mirrors are mounted very far inside the handlebars and I wanted it to clear my shoulders.
Once the box arrived, I took out all the pieces to see what is inside. For this gallery, I am only showing the parts for one mirror.

Various sized bolts (all 10mm), the ball, star washer, arm, and mirror.
The installation is very simple (well as long as your bolts are not frozen). Remove ALL the mirror pieces. The stock mirror is actually screwed into another nut. You must remember to move that one. What should be left is the piece that is affixed permanently to the handlebars.

Now you need to install the ball. Insert the correct bolt into the ball (I did not need the riser that comes with the kit). Add the star washer and be sure to use thread locker. Screw in the bolt using a 8mm hex wrench. I am not sure of the torque setting but it does say it in the instructions.

Now take the arm and loosen the nut. Affix one side to the ball and the other to the mirror and tighten. Sitting on your bike adjust the mirror to your liking.

Newly installed mirrors.
Thats it! These do stick out a bit so if the bike is laid down, they will hit but because they are on balls, they will move before they break. Also, if you get into a tight space, you can manually move them up and out of the way.
I rode this morning with the new mirrors and the field of vision is 10x better. I am really happy with the mod.
