Too Broke for Sturgis Bike Show
Not everyone can point their front wheel toward South Dakota every August, but that doesn't mean you have to miss out on the excitement. Dog House Harley-Davidson in Rock Hill, South Carolina, has found the perfect solution with its annual Too Broke for Sturgis Bike Show—an event that captures the atmosphere of America's most famous motorcycle rally without requiring a cross-country ride.

This year was no exception. I hooked up with another bike and took the trek down there. It was a cloudy day and rain was predicted in the forecast later but no matter. I wanted to get and ride (and go to the show).

Worth the Ride
Overall this is probably one of the best Harley dealership events I have attended. The turn out was fantastic and got to see quite a number of nice bikes. The only downturn was about 2pm, the rain started. We waited it out for while hoping for a slowdown and around 3pm, the rain stopped. We hopped on our bikes and headed out. The only problem was about 1/2 mile from where we left, the skies let loose. Total downpour with a nice mix of lighting and thunder. Luckily it only lasted about 10-15 minutes but we were drenched. The rain tapered off but not completely. The other coupled decided to stop off at a local Irish pub. I would have too except I had dinner plans with my wife and needed to be home a bit early. Luckily the remainder of the 90+ minute ride was not a downpour.
If you're anywhere near Charlotte, Concord, Rock Hill, or the surrounding Carolinas, the ride to Dog House Harley-Davidson is well worth making. Even if you're "too broke for Sturgis," you'll still experience plenty of chrome, custom motorcycles, good food, live entertainment, and conversations with fellow riders who understand why life is simply better on two wheels.
Sometimes the best motorcycle memories aren't made thousands of miles from home—they're made at local events where the passion for riding is just as strong.
