Lunch Lap 2026 - Vol 3
What happened to Volume 2? No, you did not miss it. I did not create one since I was unable to attend (I was at Myrtle Beach Bike Week). I hate missing these rides since they are a blast but I also did not want to miss bike week. Oh well - such hard decisions.
I opted to take the Road King. I wanted to see how it would feel on a longer ride. Not disappointed. Very comfortable!
This months ride had about 25 bikes (approx 30-35 people). As per usual, the ride starts around 11:30 at the Sambuco Barber Company. We left about 11:45 and were heading over to Lake Wylie. It had been pre-arranged to stop at PaPa Doc's Shore Club.

For the ride, the weather was hot. I think it was around 95 when we go there. We left the barber shop and took back roads down to Lake Wylie. The ride was a little over an hour. This route did not have a LOT of turns but the roads we were on were not heavily travelled. We were able to easily stay together as a group and did not need to blockers nearly as much (it also helps to have a much smaller group of bikes).
Once we got close to Lake Wylie, the traffic got a bit heavy. And with it being so hot, began to be a little uncomfortable (hot). Luckily the traffic was short lived. The parking at PaPa Doc's was simple. It sits next to a public boat ramp and parking was plentiful. We opted to park along the fence (we were trying to find a bit of shade). There was a policeman there and after a few minutes explaining, he let us stay on the fence (it was close to one of the lanes that goes to the boat ramp).

After dismounting, we headed over to the restaurant. This place is quite nice. The restaurant is huge. They also have a back (covered) patio area. And across the lagoon, there is a small outdoor bar with tables and chairs.
It had been pre-arranged to have a room that would fit us all and we had two waitresses there to wait on us as well. All I know is that it was cool inside and it felt good to sit in the A/C. I have not ever been here before but got the fried calimari and steamed shrimp. I must say, it was excellenet. You could tell they batter their own calimari and it was light and crunchy. The steamed shrimp was served hot and was excellent as well.
After finishing the meal, paid our bill, and headed outside to sit in the chairs by the outdoor bar and lagoon. We sat out there for a while (in the shade) and enjoyed talking and watching. It was not too bad in the shade. Unfortunately their was weather coming so I decided (like most) to head back home. It is close to a 90 minute ride back home and I wanted to beat the weather.
On the ride home, you could tell the weather was changing. For one, it was cooler and cloudier. It felt fantastic. It was still warm but when riding, the breeze was quite comfortable. Looking at the sky, I could tell the storm was coming. I was less than 7 minutes from my house and it began to rain. It was coming down pretty good. Since I was so close, I did not stop to put on rain gear but just decided to get wet.
It was still raining when I got home so I parked the bike and wiped it off. I then headed upstairs to change and hang up my clothes for the next ride. Overall it was a great day with good friends and a very nice ride and meal. Cannot wait for the next one.
